230 Cutting Disc Backing Cloth Differences - European Standard vs Plain Disc

Let’s dive deeper into the differences in mesh cloth for our 230 series. You can easily tell them apart by looking at the backside. The first three styles come with non-woven fabric backing. We have regular plain non-woven fabric, square grid patterns, and dotted patterns. We also make open-mesh versions with no non-woven covering on the surface.

This style looks really nice. We call this the European version. The uncovered raw version is known as the plain base. It comes straight out of the mold like this, while the other one has the fabric covering.

The mesh is made of fiberglass. If you touch the bare fiberglass directly, tiny glass filaments will stick into your skin and cause stinging irritation, just like tiny splinters.

The European version only has a thin paper layer. This one uses black paper with textured grain, which hides the mesh structure well. For thinner cutting discs, the mesh weave is finer and less visible. The textured paper also covers the mesh so it won’t show through. It feels much safer to handle.

This one features thick plain woven mesh, different from standard interwoven mesh. Plain woven mesh delivers better tensile strength than interwoven mesh.

We added patterns on top of the non-woven backing to prevent loose fiber fuzz, creating dotted and grid textures.

Are these upgraded versions more expensive? The price difference is minimal. We upgraded our product to Grade A+ mainly because our customers sent grid-pattern samples for reference. Generally speaking, nearly all of these products are made right here in China. Our competitors set the trend for customers, and then customers pass the requirements on to us, haha. It is simply a method for product positioning and grading. The key factors that determine quality are still the raw material composition, abrasive grain quality, and the tensile strength of the fiber mesh.
