It is unreasonable by general abrasive industry standards that the video claims silicon carbide is the main raw material for cutting stainless steel. Silicon carbide is an abrasive specially used for stone and glass. It costs around 20% more than fused alumina and features high brittleness. When cutting stainless steel, it wears out quickly and delivers worse burr control than white fused alumina and brown fused alumina.
A small number of manufacturers may add a small amount of silicon carbide to create special formulas, yet such products are only for workpieces with special processing requirements. Standard stainless steel cutting discs available on the market adopt alumina-based fused alumina formulas, which balance cutting performance, service life, and production cost as the all-around optimal solution. Using silicon carbide alone to produce general-purpose metal cutting discs results in very poor cost performance.
