Can Cutting Disc Be Thinner While Keeping Long Service Life?

Created on 08.29
Many customers ask me: Can we make the same-size cutting disc thinner for better sharpness, while keeping the weight unchanged to guarantee service life?
To be frank, this cannot be achieved.
Weight determines the total amount of abrasive grains. If you want a thinner disc with the same weight, you have to increase the outer diameter.
However, the size is fixed, and the outer diameter cannot be modified.
Given the fixed volume, thinning the disc will inevitably reduce its overall weight. Less abrasive material means shorter cutting life.
Sharpness and service life are two performance indicators that restrict each other.
A thinner disc cuts faster and delivers sharper performance. A thicker disc with sufficient abrasive grains ensures long-lasting wear resistance.
You can only find a balanced trade-off based on your working conditions. There are no perfect parameters that satisfy both requirements.
